OUR PORT Last year was one for the record books at Georgia Ports Authority. The GPA handled a record 4.2 million twenty-foot equivalent units, intermodal rail lifts surged to 435,000 and gate moves exceeded 2.3 million. This success would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of GPA's partners in Georgia's maritime and logistics community.
GARDEN CITY TERMINAL EXPANSION At 1,200 acres, the Port of Savannah's Garden City Terminal is North America's largest single container terminal. Over the next decade, Georgia Ports Authority plans to expand the Port of Savannah's annual capacity by 45 percent - from 5.5 million twenty-foot equivalent units to 8 million TEUs per year.
GEORGIA PORTS CREATES JOBS ACROSS THE STATE Georgia Ports supports more than 439,000 jobs in Georgia, that's one out of 11 jobs. That number represents jobs in shipping and logistics and large corporations, but also includes jobs in small businesses - businesses that have been passed from one generation to the next - like 24e Design Co.
THE PORT THAT NEVER SLEEPS Superior service and unmatched connectivity are driving growth at Georgia's deepwater ports. Georgia Ports Authority is a 24-hour operation, 7 days a week, ensuring cargo continues flowing. In FY2018, GPA achieved a record for total cargo - 36 million tons - growing by 8 percent, or 2.6 million tons.
